A New York financier has been found dead and naked in his pricey apartment, with police believing he died after a sex romp went wrong.
Neil Rodney Smith was found inside his home in Dumbo, Brooklyn, shortly before 2pm on Monday with a pillow covering his face and a wet towel stuffed in his mouth.
Police sources said they believe the 57-year-old died shortly after he was heard having sex with a man he met on the internet, the New York Post claims.
'He went online and hooked up with some guy and, whatever they were doing, he died,' a source reportedly told the newspaper.
The insider added that moments before the man died, a guest staying in the apartment with his wife allegedly: 'heard a guy in there with him... he heard them having sex.'
According to the Post, Smith and the man he was with had been communicating via text messages and social media in recent days.
'There were text messages exchanged and Facebook stuff where he’s hooking up with this guy,' the NYPD source told the newspaper.
Smith's house-guest told police he had not seen the 57-year-old CEO since he had a visitor about 1:30 on Sunday morning. The guest who spoke to officials was in New York visiting from Colombia.
Investigators are said to be examining security footage from the glitzy building, where the average apartment sells for about $3million.
The footage shows a man and a woman arriving at the apartment, however only the man goes inside the apartment while the woman with him waits outside, according to the New York Daily News.
The duo arrived about the time Smith's guest said he last saw his friend in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Smith was the CEO of the Manhattan-based investment firm, Infraccess
