Kordell Stewart, a former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears, filed the lawsuit against Andrew Caldwell over claims that the pair had dated.
Caldwell, a well-known internet personality and hoaxer who famously claimed to be ‘cured’ of homosexuality, alleged he and Stewart “hooked up in the past” during a 2015 radio interview.
Caldwell has since admitted making the tryst up.
Stewart, who was married to Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams at the time of the supposed affair, launched legal proceedings against Caldwell this month in a bid to reclaim $4.5 million in damages.
The lawsuit insists that “at all times during his life, Mr. Stewart has been, and is, a heterosexual male”.
The former sportsman alleges he has been damaged him “personally and professionally in a sports industry that has made homosexuality an unenviable, controversial and taboo topic”.
According to the Mail his lawsuit also claims that “these ‘false’ and harmful allegations have limited his credibility and respect in an industry where toughness and ‘macho’ personalities dominate”.
Stewart previously spoke out on the Steve Harvey Show to deny a separate allegation that he had engaged a transgender sex worker.
He said: “Guys were here saying that I got arrested in a park having lewd acts performed on me by a transvestite.
“First of all, when in the world have I gone to jail in Pittsburgh, because there’s no record… I don’t care if it’s 10, 20, 30 years, If it happened, it would be documented!
“Let alone, being with a transvestite… now, each his own, but the thing I understood about life, is when God created the heaven and earth, he created Adam and Eve. That’s all I know. When this happened, it drew me closer to the word.”
