Man Charged With Stabbing Boyfriend In Both Eyes

A male stripper in Florida allegedly stabbed his partner in the eyes and jammed a piece of wood in his throat because he thought he was a cannibal, police say.

Justin Calhoun, 24, is facing second-degree attempted murder charges after being arrested Monday in Key West for attacking 67-year-old Mark Brann, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami. Brann has since died of his injuries in what police called a “brutal domestic-related attack,” reports.

Calhoun, who told police he and Brann had been in a sexual relationship, said the couple got into an argument because he believed Brann to be a “cannibal,” according to the report.

That led Brann to pick up a gun on a nearby bed where they had been lying, Calhoun told police. Calhoun said he managed to wrest the gun away from Brann and planned to shoot him, but the weapon jammed.

Calhoun then grabbed a pen and stabbed Brann in both eyes before stuffing a piece of wood from a broken dresser into his mouth to “silence him,” according to the police report.

Calhoun “stomped” on the wood to further lodge it in Brann’s mouth and then grabbed a drawer from the dresser to assault him. Calhoun locked Brann’s roommate out of the room and then jumped out of a window in the nude, the police report said.

Calhoun, who eluded authorities for several hours by climbing on rooftops, admitted after his capture that his actions went beyond self-defense, WPLG reported.

Brann was flown to a hospital in Miami, where he died Tuesday, one day after the attack, reports. A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said Calhoun was being kept in a private cell because he self-identified as a female when booked.

Calhoun remained jailed without bail as of Wednesday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office website. It’s unclear whether he had hired an attorney.
